The project is developed by the Daughters of Charity of the Nyamirambo Community, with the support of the advice and information of the prison’s social office and the Catholic chaplain. The living conditions in the prison are not favorable for sick and elderly inmates whom are considered vulnerable. Due to the prevalence of chronic and incurable disease among prisoners, enriched nutrition is critical to this project and to the goal of improving overall health and well-being of prisoners. Most beneficiaries cannot find an effective diet, which is why providing a balanced meal to vulnerable prisoners is essential. Sisters will also provide education opportunities, clothing and hygiene items, and counseling/support services.
